I went to Otago Primary Swimming Champs. Samantha and Emma from Room 2went as well. I swam in the freestyle race and beat 58 seconds qualifying time. I swam 50m in 52 seconds. For backstroke you had to beat 1.03 seconds to qualify, I got 1.01.It was fun. At first I had butterflies big time but then I had to race.I did not get in the finals but I had fun!

Earth Hour 2009

Dunedin celebrated Earth Hour on Saturday 28th March from 8.30pm-9.30. Everyone was challenged to turn off their lights and other electrical appliances to highlight the need to reduce our energy consumption to help the planet. 20 people from our class took part with their families after watching this Utube video in class on Friday.
Some of the things we did were go to Octagon to see the lights off and fire breathing, played spotlight, played board games under candlelight and played hide and seek in the dark. It was awesome so many families took part.

Making Our Worm Farm

We started by getting horse manure and worms. Then we added food scraps to make an
incubator to get more worms from the eggs. Then we put wet newspaper and sand to see
the movement as the worms ate the food. A couple of weeks later we put them in a worm farm. Then we put more food scraps, banana skins, teabags and wet paper [worms love teabags and coffee!]We hope to go on a class trip to buy more worms as they are such good recyclers.

Brain Boxes

Today we played with Brain Boxes. We found out how to make circuits. A circuit needs a connector (wire) a switch, a cell (battery) and a bulb. When we turned the switch on the circuit closed and the light went on. Some of us also used motors and speakers.

We had a fantastic day on the water at Macandrew Bay today, the gusty conditions were received with enthusiasm and excitment. Well done to the 12 children in the morning group.
I was so proud of you :)
